Terdapat dua kemungkinan mengenai asal-usul kata Taufan dalam Bahasa Inggeris di kenal dengan  istilah "typhoon" bisa juga disebut "Storm"

Istilah Taufan

Pendapat pertama mengatakan
istilah tersebut diambil daripada istilah Cina yaitu 大風 (Kantonis: daaih fūng; Mandarin: dà fēng)
yang artinya "angin kencang". Satu lagi pendapat mengatakan istilah tersebut diambil dari
perkataan Urdu, Parsi dan Arab ţūfān (طوفان), yang diambil istilahnya daripada tuphōn (Τυφών),
raksasa di dalam mitos Yunani yang bertanggung jawab membawa angin panas.





Dalam Bahasa Melayu, istilah "taufan", membawa maksud yang sama yaitu angin kencang
tetapi di dalam Bahasa Inggris, Istilah hurricane digunakan bagi taufan yang melanda dibagian Atlantik Utara dan Pasifik Timur Laut.
Istilah "typhoon" jula digunakan di bagian Pasifik Barat Laut.

• 9 The voice of The Lord twists the oaks and strips the forests bare. And in HIS temple all cry, “Glory!”
• 10 The Lord sits enthroned over the flood; The Lord is enthroned as King forever.
• 11 The Lord gives strength to his people; The Lord blesses HIS people with peace.
